If you plan to read Tarot professionally, insurance is worth looking into. It can help protect you if a client is unhappy, a misunderstanding happens, or a claim is made about your services.
In some regions, insurance may also be expected or required, for example, if you plan to work at events, markets, fairs, wellness spaces or rent a studio space. Because requirements and coverage vary widely by country, and sometimes by state or province, you will need to do your own local research.
Below is one option we can share based on our experience with IICT, and a few suggestions for researching other insurance providers in your region.
Option 1: IICT Membership and Insurance Pathway
Biddy Tarot is listed as an Approved Training Provider with the International Institute for Complementary Therapists (IICT). IICT is a professional membership body. They do not provide insurance directly. Instead, they work with insurance partners in different regions.
Important: You must have an IICT Practitioner Membership in order to access their insurance partners.
You can review IICT membership options here. Choose your country in the top right corner to see pricing in your local currency and the options available in your region.
Why IICT may be right for you
This pathway can feel simpler because it is designed to be an all-in-one option.
If you offer Tarot plus other services, IICT may be helpful because you can choose multiple approved modalities under one membership plan. IICT lists a large number of modalities, so you can check if what you offer is included.
What is a modality?
A modality is a service type you want covered, for example, Tarot, Astrology, Reiki, and so on.
IICT membership options are based on how many modalities you want included, such as up to 3 modalities or up to 10 modalities.
You can search IICT’s approved modalities here.
Where is this available?
IICT confirmed Tarot Card Reading is approved for membership and insurance in:
- Australia
- New Zealand
- United States
- United Kingdom
- Canada
- Europe (selected countries only)
Step by Step: How It Works
- Confirm your country and that Tarot Card Reading is an approved modality in your region
- Apply for IICT Practitioner Membership and select the membership level that matches how many modalities you want covered
- After your membership is active, apply for insurance through IICT’s insurance partner for your region
Pricing and Coverage
Membership pricing, insurance partners, and coverage details vary by region, and sometimes by state or province.
For the most accurate details, always select your country in the top right corner on the IICT website. For insurance rates and coverage questions, you will need to contact the insurance partner listed for your region.
Visit the IICT insurance page here.
Option 2: Insurance outside of IICT
IICT is only one pathway. You may also be able to find coverage through local insurance providers or brokers in your area. This can be a good option if you want to compare pricing and coverage, or prefer not to join a membership body.
Where to Start
- Search for a local insurance broker who works with small businesses, wellness practitioners, or professional liability. A broker can tell you quickly what is available in your region and whether Tarot can be included under their policies.
- Ask other Tarot professionals in your area what they use. Local recommendations are often the fastest way to find a broker or provider who already understands this type of work.
Asking for Coverage
Insurance companies may not always list Tarot specifically, so it helps to describe your work in plain language. You can say something like:
“I offer intuitive Tarot readings for personal guidance. I do not provide medical, legal, or financial advice.”
Questions to ask a broker or provider:
- Does the policy cover my services? Tarot readings, plus any other modalities you offer.
- Does it cover online and in-person sessions? If you do both.
- What type of coverage do I need for my situation? Professional liability, general liability, or both?
- Are there any exclusions related to spiritual or intuitive services?
- What coverage limits are recommended for my region and the way I work?
A Friendly Reminder
We cannot advise on which insurance provider is best for your personal situation. Insurance rules and requirements vary widely, and they change over time. We recommend reviewing what is available in your region and choosing the option that best fits your practice.
